The Story of the Month
  • Christina Cho’s journey into APEX development began during her time as a consultant at Oracle. Early in her career, she worked on developing a web application for a government agency using the PL/SQL Web Toolkit to help distribute grants - a traditional, code-heavy development experience. But everything changed when she was brought in to assist with an internal product called “Flows,” the early name for what would become Oracle APEX. That’s when she discovered the power of low code.

She was struck by how much she could accomplish without writing everything by hand. The efficiency and simplicity of APEX stood out, especially compared to the heavy coding she had done previously. When she was invited to officially join the APEX team in 2001, she eagerly accepted. Her excitement stemmed not only from the technology but also from the team itself - a supportive, collaborative, and passionate group that felt like family. They didn’t just build features; they cared deeply about the global APEX community.

Working on APEX has meant contributing to tools used by people around the world. It’s about helping others build solutions that boost productivity and create value within their organizations. For Christina, this aligns closely with Oracle’s mission: to help people see data in new ways, discover insights, and unlock endless possibilities.

Being part of the APEX team has also meant working alongside bright and talented people - who are always learning from each other. It truly is “the dream team,” as her former manager Joel Kallman used to say. Meeting users across the globe, receiving praise, honest feedback, and thoughtful enhancement requests - all of it has fueled Christina’s passion for APEX.

She never imagined that APEX would become one of Oracle’s key products and a leading low-code platform worldwide. Having witnessed its growth from the early days to its real-world impact, Christina considers it a blessing - and the driving force behind her continued passion and commitment to developing APEX.
