Database Overall → Upgrade
AutoUpgrade automates unplugging a PDB from a CDB, plugging it into a higher version CDB, and upgrading the PDB to that new target version.
Business Benefit: As part of the process to simplify upgrade, starting with Oracle Database 21c, you can upgrade pluggable databases (PDBs) using an unplug/plug, where the upgrade occurs when you plug the PDB into the target release container database (CDB). This feature adds another scenario in which AutoUpgrade can automate the entire database upgrade process.
Notes: For all offerings using Oracle Database 19c or later, if you are not licensed for Oracle Multitenant, then you may have up to 3 user-created PDBs in a given container database at any time. For all offerings using Oracle Database 12.1 through 18c, if you are not licensed for Oracle Multitenant, then the container database architecture is available in single-tenant mode, that is, with one user-created PDB, one user-created application root, and one user-created proxy PDB.The following policies apply to all Oracle Database releases that support Oracle Multitenant (Oracle Database 12.1 and later):Free: Included option; you are licensed to create up to 16 PDBs, however, the actual number of PDBs you can create might be less due to Free resource limits.EE: Extra cost option; if you are licensed for Oracle Multitenant, then you can create up to 252 PDBs.ODA and Exa: Extra cost option; if you are licensed for Oracle Multitenant, then you can create up to 4096 PDBs.ExaDB/CC, BaseDB EE-HP, and BaseDB EE-EP: License included option: You can create up to 4096 PDBs. BYOL option: Limit is 3 PDBs, unless you purchase the Oracle Multitenant option.Authorized Cloud Environments: Use is limited to three pluggable databases per container database.
