In order for users to adopt CRM, we need to recognize that in today’s corporate—and for that matter personal—environments, users and customers demand to be able to use the tools and devices that they want to perform their duties. The days of telling users, “you will use this application and this laptop to access your email” are gone. The devices that users have are extremely diverse, ranging from desktop or laptop PCs to Macs and Unix-based boxes to mobile devices—iPhones, Androids, tablets, and so on—and they need access wherever and whenever they work.
Our goal with the Siebel platform is to provide the flexibility to allow users to work where they want. With the introduction of the Open UI client in the 2012 Innovation Pack, we made very big steps in that direction. With the 2013 Innovation Pack, we further that process by increasing the depth and breadth of Open UI’s capabilities to ensure that regardless of the platform, users can use the CRM application.
We make data more accessible—through the introduction of the Disconnected Mobile Client, we give users the ability to work with Siebel on their tablet or other mobile device even when disconnected from the network.
Finally, we have increased the capability of the Open UI-based client, adding controls beyond the standard list and form applets to allow more complex tasks, such as service dispatch or event organization to occur regardless of the manner in which users access the application. For customer and partner-facing sites, this includes the addition of a modern-looking interface that will make today’s web user feel at home, improving efficiency and adoption.
